where's my money?

A mate who owes me a few hundred quid has just sent me a bank transfer from her bank account. She lives in San Francisco and I live and bank here in the UK. She sent the money last night at around 7pm. When is it likely to appear in my current account roughly?

It could take a few days to appear....For everthing else there's mastercard.
For clampers there's Barclaycard.0 -

Can you be more specific? A few days as in 10 days or more like 3 days?0 -
The sending bank might be able to be more specific! It will go through one or more routing banks, you'll be doing well for 3 working days, perhaps not as long as 10 though.0

I tried to get some money form a friend in NYC recently. The charges were prohibitive, and this was from Lloyds TSB USA to Lloyds TSB UK. Around $150 if I recall. They reckoned around 7-10 working days. Of course this probably varies extremely though.
In future, use Western Union if its a friend, much cheaper than a bank transfer and is there in a few hours.
FYI we eventually did it via PayPal - who inexplicably marked it as fraudulent and kept the money for 4 working days!!! It seems however you do it, somebody is going to shark the interest...0 -
A second vote for Paypal. I had to send £150 to Japan and HSBC's charge for doing it was huge (about £30 I think).
I paid the Paypal fee, so the recipient received the full £150 and I paid a bit extra, but it was tiny compared to the bank's charge. About £4 I think?
Plus, the recipient received it to their Paypal balance immediately.
To the OP - your friend needs to ask their bank how long it will take to arrive.0 -
The payment was in my account within less than 24 hours. Amazing.0
