    If you were almost part of the family you have a different relationship with the people you work with than if you'd simply been interviewed and employed. They probably see you as part of the furniture.

  • I once was forced to listen to ONE rather heated argument at work - about a CD on a PC I think - and a memo came round saying that raising your voice to a colleague is not acceptable. That is how civilised companies operate.

    Obviously, small family companies are different from those that employ more than 50 people, and personal arguments are different from disagreements about work issues but the principle is the same.

    I do put headphones in but then that can cause more problems. They get annoyed that I can't hear when they call me or I don't answer the door.

    Yep definitely part of the furniture. Though the dog appreciates me being there. He hates the shouting just as much as me XD
