Insurance company refuse to pay stolen car

Hi

I wonder if someone could help me here. I worked in a night shifts hospital. One morning I brought my children to school and then went home to get my usual sleep. My car is only parked in the street.
When I woke up and about the pick my children, I found out that my car is already gone. I can't find my car keys and no break in the house. It looks like I lost it somewhere. I reported to police immediately and phoned my insurance company. They refuse to pay me because they said I lost the key. Its in my contract. But what can I do, I didn't know my keys were lost in the first place.
The car is in a hire purchase agreement and I only paid about a year. I still have 3 years to pay. They said, I still need to pay for my monthly payments even though I don't have car any more.
I'm not sure what to do.

You can appeal their decision, though don't get too hopeful - maybe your best hope is the car gets found!

(You do have to keep repaying your loan)

Slightly off-topic, but was there a way to identify the vehicle from the keys?

If not, how would someone finding the keys know which vehicle they fitted?

I was thinking about that. The only thing I could think of is if I dropped the keys near the car itself.

I guess pressing the unlock button might give a clue.

Obviously depends on how far the keys are from the vehicle but generally speaking keys have the brand of the vehicle on them and with most having remote locking etc then just keep pressing the unlock button until you see a cars lights flash to confirm its just unlocked.

Probably a bit late now but are you sure the keys weren't stolen ? Possible pick pocket ? wire clothes hanger through the letter box etc. If unsure you should present the insurance company with this scenario rather than assuming you lost them. Once they've got a get out of not paying they won't let go of it...
  • Who is the insurer, and what exactly is the policy term they are relying on?

Maybe they were in the ignition?

This is worth answering, Insurers don't always state theft if you lose your keys is excluded.

I'm not sure what to do.

    Think....

What keys were on the key ring ? Just car, or like many others house etc?

Where do you normally put the keys when you get in? Are they in sight?

Was the house locked while you were in bed?
