first time car insurance? cheaply?

hi, im looking to get for the first time but cheaply. Insurance is the biggest issue cos its going to be about £2500 for the first year. Im wondering if I have to purchase a car and the insurance etc. just to get my no claims bonus for cheaper car insurance for the year after?

Is there another way? like adding my name to to fathers insurance for the first year and gaining my 1 years no claims bonus? so when im able to purchase my car i get insurance far more cheaper than my first year.

thanks.

If youe dad is insured with direct line they will allow named drivers to build up their own no claims bonus. However, you can then only go on to use that no claims bonus if you then go on to get a policy with direct line. It will not be recognised by any other insurer.

If your dad is not insured with direct line then you will not be able to accrue your own no claims as a named driver as as far as i know no other insurers are currently doing this.

It is best to get a little group 1 car and insure it yourself and build up yuor own no claims.

    Try comfused.com to compare quotes.

A place to try is adrianflux.co.uk. I was insured with them for my xr2 about 14 years ago(I was young, I thought it was great:o ) but they were cheapest and gave me a good quote about 3 years ago for a lotus elise - you still get people recommending them in some of the car magazines for young drivers. It might be worth buying a magazine like maxpower which has an insurance section at the back that has quite a few brokers who specialise in new drivers, higher risks etc. I found some of the major companies really didn't want my custom e.g. my astra gte in 1994 the aa wanted £2750 a year fully comp but I eventually got it for £780!

confused.com & moneysupermarket.com are must tries for cheap deals.
  • try 17to40 (think it is .co.uk) they specialise in new drivers and are NOT covered by confused.com or moneysupermarket or elephant.co.uk or !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I tried a yahoo search for provisional driver insurance and came up with a load of smaller insurers who were quoting for less than 600. sometimes worth googling or yahooing keywords as the screenscrapers cant show you all insurers.
