EDF Blue
Having seen the impending energy price increases coming, I asked the missus (who looks after the gas/elec bills) to switch to EDF Blue.
We're currently with EDF on their standard tariff, having come off one of their V-something online tariffs earlier in the year.
I looked online and it said that the cost of the Blue fixed until May 2014 (yes, I know we missed out on the cheaper April 2014 deal), was only about £10-£15 a year more than the standard deal.
When the missus spoke to them this evening (technically yesterday now), they said the premiums would go from our current £108 to about £125 per month (dual fuel).
Was the guy talking rubbish, or is their website completely wrong and the Blue May 2014 fixed deal far more expensive?

You are confusing two different numbers. Prices vary by region but in a region I checked at random the tariff is 1% more expensive than standard. Fixed until May 2014, being only 1% more expensive than standard, is/was a no-brainer.
The monthly cost you have been quoted is likely a monthly cost based on a "projected consumption", either your last 12 months actual or Edf's projection of your future consumption, rightly (or wrongly) probably higher. So your "£10-£15" a year is quite possible but I suspect you have no idea of your annual consumption or the consumption Edf used for the quote.
Related to that, what was you account balance at your last bill and when is your 'annual review' date?0
