Ebay - second chance offer timing

Hi all

Thought I'd ask for some opinions.

On Sunday afternoon an auction of mine for a vacuum cleaner ended. The bidder had a (58) next to their name, and being fairly new to the whole shebang I took it to mean they were a good buyer/seller.

Various emails were exchanged with regards to them collecting it - they were supposed to come yesterday after 3pm, cash on collection. They never showed up. Emailed them this morning to check if they are going to be coming.

I went back to look over their bidding history just now and ended up clicking on the 58 next to their name. I noticed that while everything was marked positive, the comments were a myriad. (Does Ebay not allow negative markings on their feedback?)
Some were good, and some are bad - apparantly the buyer, on more than one occasion, has bid for the item, not paid, and then disappeared off the face of the Earth (and on one or two occasions has left negative feedback for the innocent seller).

So my question is this: there is another bidder who I would like to second chance offer it to. How long should I wait to do this? I dont want the other person who hasnt shown up thus far to turn up when I have second chance offered it.

Thanks. x

  • First thin you need to do is a non paying bidder case.
You'll have to wait until that is closed before offering the other bidder the item.
It seems previous sellers have let this buyer get away with time wasting without reporting them.

ditto to above you need to the non paying bidder against the seller, then they may come and collect it or completly ignore ebay. When you open the case ur sending a message through ebay, I would say please collect by xx/xx/xx then from that date offer it to the second person. In theory you should wait until the investigation been completed.

Basically now us buyers can only leave positive feedback for sellers, - where as previously u could leave a neg to say never collected, never paid this would show future buyers, but ebay took that away.

Hope you get it sorted x

many thanks - I will do that email tomorrow when I have more time, they may get in touch tomorrow morning, something could have come up etc (ever hopeful I wont be duped here).
I will state collection must be completed by Sunday 14th as I dont want this to carry over for another week.

I will certainly be reporting this person, no worries about that!

I wouldn't even bother emailing them with a deadline - the non-paying bidder case takes 4 days to run, and they'll be sent a reminder to pay with that.
No point in wasting any more time in waiting for your fees to be refunded, plus the longer you wait before giving the other bidder a second chance offer, the more likely it is that they'll have found something else.
Dont forget to add the original winner to your blocked bidder list.
  • Thanks Rainbowdrops, you also make some good points. I will be doing the aforementioned email this morning anyway. :)

I'll post and let you lovely people know how it turns out :)

Actually buyers can still leave a seller a negative, but not the other way round.

Don't worry, eBay will remove negative feedback in only a few circumstances, but a non-paying bidder is one of them.

If by chance, the non-payer should leave you a negative, ask eBay to remove it. I've found by phone is quickest.

If a non-paying buyer's negatives remain, it's because the innocent seller didn't ask eBay to remove them.

    Good luck

  • Hi all

Update- after opening case and not getting a response by Saturday evening I was about ready to quit. However 9am Sunday morning got a call from buyer telling me he was coming to pick it up.
Would have been nice for him to contact me prior to apologise about Thursday's non show....anyway he was round within 2.5 hours, paid in full on the spot and collected the item. Got positive feedback too so happy all around. :)

So glad I didnt have to take it further!
