Redundancy Looming and Insurer Cancels my Policy

I have had redundancy insurance for approx 12 months and not needed to make a claim so far. I have recently been made aware that the company i work for is going to undertake a massive restructure that will result in redundancies and I will find out on 10th January if my post is directly at risk, if so I will be served my 90 day notice.

I have recently received a letter from my insurer to inform me that they have cancelled my policy as they no longer offer that type of insurance and that they will not be taking any further premiums from me. They are unaware of my situation, however as I now know that redundancy could be impending I am not able to swap to another insurer.

Is there anything I can do?

  • yes you know that-but any new insurer wouldnt be would they?
get your bum into gear and get new insurance sorted out asap,as some of them do have quite a long qualifying period.
we were kind of in the same position once with a largeish credit card bill and no insurance, when my hubbys firm started making redundancies we got it sorted asap and had noproblems. have they officially announced them? at the end of the day you dont know whether your post is at risk so if you were asked the question you could quite easily answer no/have no idea.
  • If you haven't received your section 138 notice you haven't been informed of the redundancy, so you should be OK to buy new insurance.
