We would like to start sending a monthly allowance to our daughter, as we know money is tight (she is a single mum on a full-time degree course, with a 4 year old.) She's just split up with her daughter's dad, and he's moved out, taking his pay packet with him. They are on reasonable terms, and the split was amicable, but…

When I was struggling a few years ago my Mum bought all my Son's shoes and his other Grandma his clothes which was an enormous help. My Mum has just started paying my son's Gym club membership £14 per month, I didn't ask her too she wanted to help out. You could do similar, do a big shop for her each month and just ask what she needs.
