I use a Touch of Silver. Seems to work fine and is good for calming down brassiness as well as preventing it.

Another one for Daddy-O here. I've tried a few "purple" shampoos and I found this the best, plus it smells gorgeous. Tried A Touch of Silver and the John Frieda ones, but they didn't leave my hair as bright as the Lush. Aveda's Blue Malva is ok, but again, not a patch on Daddy-O.

  • When I had white blond hair, I used Schwarzkopf as recommended by my city centre based hairdresser but it was expensive. My new (local) hairdresser recommends the cheap and cheerful Touch of Silver!

However, you can mix the expensive one with cheaper shampoo for blondes. It will still work at toning down any brassiness.

Touch of silver worked well for me when I was blonde many years ago.

What strips hair of colour the most is sulphate surfactants (foaming ingredient) and to a lesser extent other anionics, also alkaline shampoos because these all lift the cuticle. Plenty of high end shampoos are stuffed with sulphates which actually damage the hair in a similar way to what bleach does. My hair is rich berry red with a semi permanent dye but the lengths haven't been done for five or six months! This is because I conditioner-only wash, the cationic surfactants they contain do not lift the cuticle and do not strip the protective fatty acids from the structure of the hair.

You can make your own purple conditioner with a bottle of your regular conditioner plus the tiniest dab of a high pigment purple or lilac semi permanent dye like La Riche Directions. These are only about £4 and a tub will last you forever. Loads of girls with white or platinum blonde hair do this, check out YouTube or the Hairdyeforum.

  • Hi
I have been using this since it was released and its fantastic, by far the best for jeeping my hair blonde (silver blonde)
This is the cheapest place I can find it and it is worth every penny as it lasts ages
I used repair conditioner and perfect hair and my hair is in a better condition than it was before it was coloured loads!

Another vote here for Daddy-O. I love love the smell of violets though so I could be biased!

  • KMS shampoo is the best I have tried. It is expensive but well worth it in my opinion. http://www.cheapsmells.com/viewProduct.php?id=381303

This thread is very interesting for me, having tried nearly all the shampoo's mentioned (except for Daddy-O, apologies I've never heard of it), because John Freida is what works for me and really suits my hair. Treseme, loads of my mates use it, but I've never rated it. I've tried Mark Hill before but didn't like it. Now, back to my point, it is interesting because of how different everyone's hair must be for so many different shampoos to be recommended!
