Do I need it on Startup when I'm only using a single SSD drive ?

Nope you dont need it, is really for raid configs and you should really be running it AHCI mode anyway.

If its already installed it *might* not actually be possible to uninstall drivers.
  • It is in AHCI mode

If not needed then I shall just uncheck it in MSCONFIG

  • Just double checking to make sure that I got AHCI set right. I have not used a SSD till this week.

In BIOS I have SATA Mode Selection on AHCI. Is that all that needs to be done in BIOS?

If you're in Win7 and did a clean install of your O/S the standard Win7 driver should pick it up and work fine, clicking and running the 'O/S Optimisation Tab' in your Samsung SSD Magician should tell you [amongst many other things] if you are not in AHCi.

If you have an SSD os disk, a 2nd conventional large data disk and a Z68 or Z77 mobo you can use the SRT feature of RST to reserve an 18GB partition on your SSD as a cache for the data disk - this massively improves read times for the data disk.

It does need a re-install of Windows to configure though.
