Richburns?!
Heya folks!
Just moved into a home I bought and have a letter from Richburns (apparently a sub-thing of British Gas) demanding money and requesting an entry to the flat from the council.
I don't want to be with whoever this random gas provider is, what's the best way of dealing with it? Can I just ignore the form they've passed through?
I moved in last month and the only thing that uses gas is the cooker so the price should be astronomically low but they are threatening 200+GBP just for a warrant to come into the house to turn off the gas...
Help appreciated!
I should also note that I called the national grid, british gas, scottish power, etc to ask if they knew the serial number on my gas thing but nobody could find it, not in the entire block of flats that I live in is there a matching serial number... Very confusing.
Thanks!

I think you should find out more who "this random gas provider is", and give them a ring to set up an account.
That's if you want the gas supply to continue0 -

They call themselves Richburns but I can't find anything about them. They list an 0208 number to call and ask (which will cost me money) and claim 202.00GBP for the costs of getting a warrant...
That's odd. A guick google showed them up as a debt collector for all of the big 6 suppliers :cool:0 -

I would contact BG with your start reading and date you moved in and forward a copy of your mortgage agreement or something which verifys your moving in date.Meter serial number is below the index, if its a metric meter ( 8 numbers on meter ) give them the first 5 numbers, the other type of meter is imperial ( 5 or 6 ) numbers, just the first 4 numbers is needed0

What would you advise that I do then?
I've only just moved in and don't really want legal battles or massive payments for unwarranted warrants to enter my property...
If you haven't yet registered for the supply, then the existing supplier assumes that you are the previous occupier, who obviously has unpaid arrears. Who is the bill addressed to? Contact BG and provide evidence of your occupation date and opening readings. You did take opening readings, didn't you?No free lunch, and no free laptop0
