One of us might need a lie down to think about what that means.

I'd suggest one of us needs to lie down and figure out the difference between "over" (what I said) and "by" (what you decided I had said).

Why don't we look at exactly what you said..
For your info, the average domestic fuel bill has gone up over 100% since the year 2000 and nearly doubled since 2006 alone.

The difference between 'over' and 'by' is very interesting but a deflection.

Have you understood what that implies? i.e. close to 0% increases in energy prices 2000 - 2006 and then large annual increases since then (c12% pa). Is that what your own energy bills tell you? Doubt it.

Looks to me like being average is an expensive state of affairs - I'd advise against it.

... except that 'bigging up' G_D to being 'average' is a bit of a compliment isn't it?

Just fixed with Scottish Power till April 2014.
Unit prices were just 1% or so higher than the plan I was on before (Online Energy Saver 7), but Scottish Power surely will follow in the latest collective price rise (thank God for that free, competitive energy market!) , so I hope it was the right thing to do...

Scottish Power has become the latest energy company to announce a price rise, with gas and electricity bills going up by 7% on 3 December.

    If only it were.

like wotsthat we have managed to peg a bills back a bit by using less, insulating, etc and chasing deals.

Like wotsthat we also regularly change and have just received our £70 back.

What erks me is that in this lovely competitive market we are paying for all the switching costs in our tariffs. Administration costs increase for opening and closing accounts, cash backs to us and the switching company, marketing costs. I would suggest our bills are £50 - 100 per year more than they need to be just to keep that lot going. then we have to subsidise local "green generation" through solar panels which cannot be economically efficient to generate versus central generation.

The one good thing Thatcher did was to ensure we kept our coal stockpile for the years to come. We will be mining it again at some point.

The higher prices the energy companies are forced to charge for all the nations infrastructure upgrades is not really any different to a tax but it can be blamed on the companies rather than the Government.
