Fixes end. The price rises will hit everyone in the end. Can't really see the beeb going down the silly route you attempt to push things down. This is the same sort of thing that renoman used to try and do with rail increases, pretending they didn't effect him, as he always bought a year ahead.
How dare he suggest a money saving route on moneysavingexpert.com! The cheek of it.0 -
Umm, it might be cost effective (just), but no major ££ in it for the FS, assay, scoping, drilling needed to find a decent deposit that's before we start on infrastructure (old mines have been allowed to flood), I am suprised we have not heard more about on land fracking the yanks will be self sufficient in oil within the next 30yrs due the process and they have now found enough supply of gas to give the world (at current usage), another 250yrs worth!! The price in the US for gas has hit and remained at an all time low due to the amount of gas on the market. Yet we have vast amounts under the ground and to date no one has tried to exploit it?

graham is on a special tariff with the utilities companies (which he personally requested). in short, the tariff is like the investec high 5 savings account - his energy bill rises by the average of the top 5 price rises in the market. as an added bonus, any increases get passed on to him on the day that they are announced, rather than the day they come into force for everyone else. it's like a modern day form of flagellation, or something.0 -

I'm more than happy for Graham to preach the message "prices are going up there's nothing you can do about it except keep paying". If it weren't for people like GD the dividend stream from my utility shares would be much less healthy.
My strong advice is for people to get on the British Gas standard tariff and stay there. Ignore Martin Lewis at all costs - moneysaving is the devil's work.0 -
Sign of the times. We're a net importer of energy and so we are a the mercy of market forces. All people can do is try to be more energy efficient. We have been installing a lot of insulation into our house and practically all of our light bulbs are now LEDs. We have A++ appliances and an efficient gas boiler. There are plenty of insulation deals available, people should make use of them.0

Exactly.
Even if you can't afford a new, efficient boiler, chances are you can afford a thicker jumper or an extra t-shirt. I go into so many clients/firends houses and it's like walking into an oven (obviously only on gas mark 2 !). I`ve touched their radiators and nearly burned my fingers. Why ? I find it rather uncomfortable and unhealthy to be in a room heated to 23 degrees (+ !), no matter what the outside temperature. I like ~18 degrees myself, others may like a bit more, but seem to think that because it's ~zero outside, indoors needs to be like a sauna.30 Year Challenge : To be 30 years older. Equity : Don't know, don't care much. Savings : That's asking for ridicule.0 -

Watched a TV show recently which hightlighted the use of coal...we've still got plenty in the UK...
The report said its cost effective...wether it happens remains to be seen..

There is a big exercise to decommision coal plants by 2015, to meet EU regulations. This lost generation capacity will have to be replaced by gas fired stations most likely, given the time left to implement and build. My bil says a lot of decisions have to be made by mid 2013 latest.0
