Scottish Power Online Accounts
Hi,
I've just moved-in to a shared house and the landlord has asked that I pay a certain, fixed sum per calendar month into their account for gas and electricity. They have assured me that they'll credit my account if, at the end of six months, there is money in online billing account.
I'm not too happy with this arrangement, and having been with Scottish Power myself a few years ago, i'm sure that you can generate/work out your costs upon entering meter readings (i.e. it generates a bill each time you enter them). Is this no longer the case?
Can anyone help/advise?
Thanks in advance, guys.

The Rock & a Hard Place
In some ways, the L/lord holding the meters in his name in a shared house is a good thing - If the Utilities are registered to the tenants huge problems arise from collecting the right money from everbody at the right time, and the suppliers will chase down any individual tenant to collect debt
The down side is that unless you have access to the actual bills, you have no idea if the pre-paid sub that the L/Lord collects is correct, and his word that any overpayments made will be returned, actually translates into him demanding extra cash if the bills are higher than the subs paid.
The solution to this problem is in fact an Online account - If the L/lord gives the tenants the paswords to the account, any one of you can access copies of the actual bills at any time and establish if your subs put the account in Debit or Credit0 -
Sp online account payed by DD is the cheapest and it is also good that it is in his name.
It it is a rented whole house to yourselves I would be expecting a monthly bill of somewhere near £100 to cover winter heating.
The land lord has to consider some renter will switch on without a electric bill education of use it and pay for it.
I would also try money for online print out of bill so I know how much I am using and to budget for?The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0
