Very old whole life assurance policies

Hi folks,
I have been going through my late father's effects and have found details of 2 whole life assurance policies taken out in 1948 & 1951. The total sum assured seems to be about £160. I've found out who the administrator's are now, and am about to fire off a letter to see if it's worth anything. Just wondered if anyone had any experience of these kind of things?

Thanks.

  • You may be doing them a favour. Insurers have loads of money in long forgotten policies and would prefer to close them down.

I've just had to do the same with some old policies that my mother had.

    All very straightforward.
  • Thanks for the helpful replies folks. :T

    For the hard of thinking...

How long does it take to sort out?
Will it be the same amount as the policy was insured for back in the day? (i.e. £160)

I suppose it depends on exactly what the insurance was but Mum's were returned very quickly and were for more than stated on the paperwork.
