Employment Support Allowance with no medical

Should you have a medical when going from incapacity benefit to Employment and Support Allowance.

I had a health questionaire a few months ago and was expecting to be sent for a medical but have now had a letter saying I will be put in the work-related activity group of Employment and Support Allowance.

I had been on incapacity benefit for a number of years and have had several medical whilst on it. I started to try some permitted work recently which I am really struggling to cope with due to a long history of stress. Would my being on permitted work be what has put me in the work acitivity group instead of the support group or does nobody have a medical when changing from incapacity benefit to employment and support allowance

I was put straight into the WRAG from IB with no medical. Had my first WFI and the 'advisor' said that it was very common for this to happen. I am currently appealling to go into the support group though so expect to be sent for WCA for that although apparently its taking about 6 to 10 months at present. ll

Are you meant to have a medical before being changed from incapacity benefit?

I am really stressed at the moment since receiving my letter about the work related group.

What do I have to do to appeal it says on the letter to ring the jobcentre or write to them, will they then send my a form to fill in to appeal through?

No you don't have to have a medical although you have to have a WCA to be turned down. If you want to appeal call the number on the letter and ask for an appeal from and the information they used to make the decision. Remember you only have one month to put the appeal in.
