Hi, My dad has been randomly pushing buttons on his laptop (again) and has changed the browser view.
This is what it looks like now:
You can see the blue desk top back ground etc which you couldn't before. He has decided this is annoying him now and wants me to "fix it" but he doesn't know what he did!
help!

Don't know what he's been pushing, but you probably need to switch off the window transparency...
Right click desktop and select Personalize
Select Window Color (at the bottom)
Remove the tick from Enable transparency and Save Changes.
Might sort it till the next time!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Managed to sort it - thank you. He's added a lot of tool bars etc (he's adamant he hasn't done anything but it suddenly changed itself!!)
GRRRRR
Thanks!0 -
This might sound a bit harsh as it's his laptop, but I had similar problems with my parents - they were just downloading and installing all kinds of rubbish (albeit unknowingly).
The simple way I fixed that was just to setup accounts and restrict access to install or to alter sensitive files. Very little harm they can do now and they're happy in that they know their computer is safe.0 -
My husband is just the same!
He goes into areas of his laptop which should be left alone!
When he's using the PC he's asking 'what is this for? what does this do?'
I'm forever trying to explain that he doesn't need to know how this or the other works.
Last week he tried three times to install a game ......... and three times I had to uninstall the game, along with installer, along with toolbar, and all attendant rubbish etc ...............................
We have just reinstalled his PC from dragging along, now it's flying ................. if he would just stop messing :mad::mad:
The 'restore' button definitely comes in handy!0 -
Why not spend a bit of time teaching them how to enjoy computers.
I learnt by my own mistakes and I also was fortunate that I had a son who took the time to show me the ropes.I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.0 -
...or make him a user account and keep the admin one safe somewhere.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?0
