Wifes accident on my insurance policy

Just under 2 years ago my wife had an accident, at the time she was a named driver on my policy so naturally when the renewal came around i had to put that i had made a claim in the last 3 years. Since then we have separated and i am now the only driver. I think it's now reasonable that i should claim that i haven't had any claims in the last 3 years because it makes it look like i had the accident and i don't see why it should affect my premium. I would argue that a claim was made by me on my policy on behalf of my wife who was driving at the time. She now has her own insurance policy for her car and in theory could claim she has not had an accident as she has never had an insurance policy in her name.

She's had an accident and you've made a claim. Now you've separated you both need to declare it because insurers as about accident or claim0

I thought the wording was 'had an accident or made a claim' So the correct line is that both of you should still be declaring the accident.

Whilst she was a named driver, you should have just been putting this against her history (not yours!). (Though now you do hace to disclose it as part of your history)0

Hardly seems fair though that despite the named driver having the accident, the policyholder will have to suffer(and he will as insurance companies will look for any excuse to hike premiums for both people on the policy at the time of the incident)I thought the wording was 'had an accident or made a claim' So the correct line is that both of you should still be declaring the accident.

It's also the insured who "suffers" the change in price by adding a named driver.
It is your responsibility as the insured to be careful who you allow to drive your vehicle as the consequence of not being impacts you directly. If you remove all the consequences of peoples actions then you remove the deterrents from doing the wrong things0 -

But your policy HAS had a claim, hasn't it? You can't re-write history.
If you don't declare it you would be committing an offence under s174 (5) of the Road Traffic Act 1988 http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1988/52/section/174
as well as probably fraud; your policy would probably be voided if there was ever a claim, and you'd have to pay any costs your insurer paid to third parties. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
