Main driver question

Our family owns one car.
My wife is a reluctant driver but recently got a job requiring her to drive 7 miles each way, daily.
I am the main driver, aged 30, with 8 years NCD/driving licence. She has about 3 or 4, same age. I think my insurance is a bit cheaper than hers (if we swap the names around)
Insurance is expiring at the end of the month.
I am not sure who is the main driver now.
She does about 3,500 miles per year but I probably do slightly more, albeit for weekends, holidays, long distances, etc. - so more miles but on fewer days.
Who is the main driver?
Obviously if she has an accident driving to/from work I don't want there to be an issue 'how is it that the car is at her work place all day and yet she is not the main driver on the policy?'
Do I lose my NCD if I swap the policy into her name for the next renewal?

Who the policyholder is and who the main driver is are actually different things, just by default it is assumed they are the same.
Now assuming your about the same age, about the same driving history then insurers arent going to be too worried with a husband and wife roughly equally sharing the car. Fronting really comes in when an older person is put down as a main driver/ policyholder with a teenage/ 20 something named driver.
There is evidently also an argument of how you define "main".... most hours? furthest distance? highest frequency?
Due to the commuting aspect it is probably safest to have her as the main driver but speak to the insurers first, explain your doing roughly equal mileage and take their advice
NCDs are valid for 2 years (generally) so by making her the policyholder yours wont immediately die. You can however only use 1 ncd on 1 vehicle and so if you're currently a 2 car family and intending to stay so she cannot use her NCD on the two vehicles, she would have to start earning a second new one if she were to insure both vehicles in her name0 -
They could argue how can you be the main driver when she has the car at work all day every day.
One where you need to phone and say she uses it for work daily but you travel more miles on the evenings and weekends.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
