Wireless Home Cinema??

Hi All,

Moving house in the next couple of weeks and am treating us to a new 42" LCD.

At the house we live in at the moment, we have a home cinema wired and running under the carpet.

At the new house we won't have that luxury and therefore, I'm asking if anyone knows where I can get a wireless home cinema that will not cost the earth.

I'm not sure how all this works either, so any advice would be very welcome. I'm thinking that you wire the player to your TV and have wirless speakers??

Also, is there such things as all in one home cinema, HDD Recorders, DVD Recorders etc...etc..?

Many Thanks

yes your correct the player will be wired to the tv and it will probably only be the rear two speakers thats are wirless. Try looking fo LG stuff as these come in at around £159-£200. But in all honesty i would stay with wired stuff if you cant as most wireless thing they are suseptable to interference.
  • Hi,

I bought the Logitech Z5450 set for just over £200 a few months ago, and they're superb. The front 3 speakers and sub are wired, the surrounds are wireless (they DO need power, just not wired to the control box). The sound is excellent, and the rears work really well. My lounge is a nightmare in terms of wireless router, PS3, DECT phones etc, so the airwaves are full, but I've never had any problems. There is a link below to the product at Amazon, this is probably not the cheapest, but you'll see some other reviews as well. I got mine from https://www.scan.co.uk (I live near so didn't have to pay P&P).

    Happy hunting!

Thanks for the info. When you say that the rear speakers need power, do you mean that they still need plugging in? just not into the same power source as the rest of it?

If that is the case then I'm not sure it will do the job. I'm after something that is totally wireless (maybe the front speakers could be wired)

    any other ideas?

remember...even wireless speakers need power (which will mean a wire!)

Hi try the Yamaha YSP 1000 a first class wireless system at a good price, you can further enhance the sound with a sub woofer. I have had this system for a couple of years and can say it is a good set up.

Tony it is only one speaker although it has 27 internal speakers, it is a virtual surround sound which bounces the sound of your walls after digitally measuring your room. If you read some reviews you will see that it does not disappoint. If you are wall mounting your tv the speaker sits underneath and looks like part of the tv. Hope this assists

Link to it on Yamaha's site and the 800 version.

I counted 40 little and 2 big speakers on the 1000 model. There's even a proper AV unit for the 1000, looks nice.

There's a useful thread on AV Forums about the 2 different models.

The 1000 is discontinued and has been replaced with the 1100, £560 + delivery is the cheapest I found it for.

one of those virtual ones might be the best option for "completely wireless" options.

As many have said, most "wireless" rear speakers actually need plugging into the wall by...a wire...and you see quite a few of them that also need plugging together (or to another box that sits at the back of the room).
(edit: and thus actually have more wires than a wired solution...)

Not sure that anything *really* wireless would have the clout needed (from battery power) - plus they'd either need recharging (kinda lame) or would eat batteries...just doesn't seem sensible.

Staying wired is clearly the best solution - As you're moving into a new place, though, couldn't you run the wires through the wall before painting? Even if you're renting, as long as you make a good job of it (put the correct sockets on either end) it's unlikely the landlord would mind too much...

As to combined hdd/dvdr etc - yeah, this is possible - but maybe not preferable.

    Big Thanks to everyone,

Some great advice there. If the 1000 model has been replaced, then maybe I'll get a nice second hand one relatively cheap!

I know what you mean about running the wires around the wall before painting, but for the rear speakers that will mean running them from the rear of the room to the TV around all door frames etc.. could look really untidy.

ps, I'm gonna "thank" everyone in this post, cheers
