carpet recommendation

Anyone recommend a neutral coloured carpet to be used in living room that backs onto muddy garden and will be kid and pet proof, while still looking stylish?

wow thats a big ask "backing on to a muddy garden with kids and pets"

If a good laminate is out of the question i would recommend a good man made berber and large back door mat :)

We just had some fitted, this stuff: http://www.carpetright.co.uk/super-emir-camel-cobble-carpets-2.html

It's made out of Polypropylene, we had a similar carpet in our old house, was down about 6 years and it was extremely hard wearing. It didnt stain, apparently you can clean these with bleach. Plenty of stuff spilt from calpol to drinks and the stains lift off easily unlike a wool carpet which soaks it in.

It's hard wearing and didnt loose much of it's surface texture through walking on it for 5 years.

Compare this to the house we just moved in to. Carpets been down a similar time and all black round the edges where the dust has accumulated and penetrated the wool (we never had this problem), flat in some areas and lots of dark patches.

So we had a new one fitted in the new house.

I would definitely recommend the thicker underlay. Under feet it's very nice, we had both types of underlay, walking from room to room you really notice it.

Also this carpet is quite a decent thick pile loop so feels warm too.

Only downside is, a textured berber isn't for everyone.

    Good luck

I don't really know that much about carpets but I think an important consideration should be the underlay that you buy.

We've ordered a carpet from carpet right but the cost of their underlay is ridiculous so we've just ordered from this website: http://www.tradepriced.co.uk/carpet_underlay.html

Hope that helps (although it's not what you asked lol).
