£80 DVLA fine from 2010 - Next Steps?

Hi everyone

This morning I have received a letter from Inter-credit stating that I owe the DVLA £80. I rang them straight away as this is the first I have heard of it and they are claiming that I owe the DVLA £80 as my scooter was not taxed on 1st July 2010. I asked what period my scooter was allegedly untaxed for and they said for 1 day only. My scooter has never been untaxed! The only proof they will accept that it was taxed was my 2010 tax disc. I no longer have it. Is it worth me contesting this? My scooter has never been untaxed, apart from now when it is SORNED. Is it acceptable for them to demand a 2 year old tax disc as proof, or is the onus on them to prove my scooter was untaxed? Can I also treat it like an ordinary debt and write off requesting a deed of assignment?

Kind regards
Baby Mazza due New Years Day 2013!

You 'rang them' - who? Inter Credit or the DVLA?

I would photocopy the letter and send a complaint to the DVLA saying they have made a mistake and to explain their position and cancel this unfounded claim which you knew absolutely nothing about. Obviously you don't have a 2 year old tax disc any more but the DVLA records will show that the bike has always been taxed or SORNed.

Send it in writing snail mail, to the usual Swansea address at the DVLA. I would not enter into correspondence with a pointless middle maan debt collector whose only agenda is to squeeze money out of you.

Or you could simply say the debt is denied hand it back to their clients, the dvla are renowned for this, last time it happened to me I just ignored them. And haven't heard anything back from them in 5 years. You could also try posting this on the motoring main forum as more people with knowledge of such things post there

They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?
