Sony Sonic Stage

I have an old Sony MP3 player that I am happy with. The only way to get stuff onto it is with the now defunct sonic stage software.
I have a new computer which will not support sonic stage.
Does anyone know of any other software that I could use to load music onto the Sony Player?

Agreed, SonicStage has it's drawbacks...not working on 64bit OS being one of them (there is a work around for that, but it's fiddly!).

I have a NWD-B103 (which thankfully allows simple "drag & drop" to transfer) and also a NW-E013 (which has to use SonicStage to transfer...which I do on an XP 32bit machine). Don't get me wrong, I think both players are great, good sound, and both have lasted well...Good Sony products.

I came across JSymphonic when a friend had problems like parcival above, and think it's a neat solution to what must be a common problem.

Good luck both, hope it helps.

Not actually helping the OP but just to say I still actually use my NW-HD3 at work as it has some songs on it from CD's that I have lost in the 8 odd years since I have had it. Fantastic sound quality that always wiped the floor with the iPod, its proper EQ was a fantastic thing after Apple only gave you pre-sets. The fact that it had a proper line out mode for using actual speakers or even plugging it into a stereo/amp was also a massive advantage over the iPod.

SonicStage was rubbish, slow and prone to crashing. I lost the disk for it and so I enquired with Sony after I couldn't find it on the support site and they wanted to charge me for a replacement so I ended up getting an iPod....

Unlikely from reading the above :), but you can get the last version of SonicStage (version 4.3) and a security update here from the Sony site for free. You'd then be able to get any songs off the NW-HD3 and move to another device before it dies.

Oh thats what i got a NW-HD3.I have 2 of them i remember paying £199 for the first one years and years ago. I then got a Ipod where the hard drive has failed on me so found out my Sony NW-HD3 the other day and thought i must change the music on it but the thought of using that Sonic Stage software was putting me off.
I know Sonic Stage wont install on my Vista Laptop but i managed to install it on my Window Xp computer.
  • It helps to set ALL the SonicStage services to start manually in XP, IIRC they are set to start automatically and use up system resources. There are quite a few of them....listed in services as...

    MSCSPTIRSV
    PACSPTISVR
    SonicStage Back-End Service
    SonicStage SCSI Service
    Sony SPTI Service

They will start normally when SonicStage is run.
