an old abbey a/c, tried to call and pay debt but it defaulted on 03/08 is it worth it

guys let me paint you the picture, out of blue call from ex she got a call at her address iro o/s monies owed for an old current account. i went onto creditexpert and seen the details, the a/c in q defaulted on 03/08 for £615. aware that it would be removed 6yrs after(is that correct?) i decided to call up and try to sort it.. answered all q's bar one, they stated they couldnt help me, so i was to go into a branch with ID, told them to forget it!
any suggestions, advice, help? is it worth bothering

You owe the debt, you know that. Your options are:
a - pay it
b - pay some of it
c - don't pay it
What do you want to do?0 -
a - pay it - -- and nobody will chase you for the debt because there is none
b - pay some of it -- - and somebody will chase you for the rest
c - don't pay it - - - and somebody will chase you for it

We keep defaults on credit reports for six years so this one will drop off yours in 03/14.
