Bill 8 months late - demanding payment

although it may not be financially worthwhile them chasing you for such a low amount...0 -
You're right. Utility suppliers usually sell such small, unsettled debts onto a DCA, but not before they have ruined the debtors credit history file....

The DCA then may add substantial charges incurred in pursuing payment of the original small debt.0 -
So let me understand this, the bill for 19 days was £19.27, any dependency between unit rates from one supplier to another is only going to amount to a few pence in any case. The OP no longer has the initial reading or the reading when supplier was changed so has nothing to question the accuracy of the estimate.

The only way you might get the handover meter reading is to register on-line with your current supplier. They "may" have previous bills available.Truth always poses doubts & questions. This was only the second time I have posted - and if I'm honest I was surprised by the responses. Jalexa gave me some very good guidance of where to look. Thank you Jalexa.:money:
I gave readings the day I moved in and the day I was asked to when supplies were transferred. I did keep the readings for a while, but not 8 months. [I assume when I paid the electricity bill I got rid of my notes not realising I hadn't been billed for gas].
It turns out the company were very reasonable. I simply rang them and asked them to explain in writing why it had taken them 8 months to bill me, and why they were billing me with an estimate when I had provided and my new supplier had confirmed the opening reading at the time of moving in. They wrote to me as requested, apologised, and said it was unacceptable and as such they'd be wiping the bill.:T0 -

Good
However, can I suggest you keep all your readings and bills and letters for 6 years in future!
I'm as bad as you that I don't always check the bills before they get paid but I do keep them.
Your first bill from the new supplier should have had the initial meter reading that you could have used.0
