*Making the move form Sub-Prime seems impossible.

I've had my Capital one Progress MasterCard for a year now, paid off in full each month, had a phone contract for a year, always paid on time, I'm 20, making over 20K a year, and the largest monthly outgoing I have is car insurance at £110.

I've been trying to find a good cashback or reward credit card to apply for. I went on confused.com or some other comparison website who said I had an 8/10 chance of getting accepted for a Santander 123 MasterCard, applied, declined. Few months later, 8/10 chance of getting accepted for the BMI duo Cards, applied, declined.

I bank with Barclays, and Barclaycard only seem to do cards for people with great credit or s**t credit, no inbetween, also their pre-application claims I'm not eligible for any of their cards, not even the Initial.

Have I just spent a year bulding credit for a laugh ? Even Capital One's more attractive credit cards have a no u-21 policy, and I only have a measly £200 limit.

I really want a higher credit limit just for some breathing space, just incase I need it, but no card issuer seems to offer a card for people like me.

Any idea's ? Thanks.

    I don't trust Barclaycards pre-app check.

It says I have a 70-80% chance of being accepted for their platinum card - won't happen!

I'm 19 and currently have £800 BC Initial and £500 on Cap1 Classic, both the original limits (although BC raised mine to £1200 and I lowered it back to £800.

So either, there's something wrong on your credit report, or the banks love me? But saying that, I've been rejected for Natwest YourPoints World Mastercard (17.9%) in the past 6 months so I don't think I'll be coming off sub-prime any time soon.

Either way - do you even really need it? Just pay it off in full every month for another year and the interest doesn't come into the equation, then try again.
  • First, get your CRA reports to ensure there's nothing wrong on them

Second, what other lines of credit do you have? A contract mobile phone? Given your biggest expense in your car insurance presumably you also still squatting at your parents?

Barclaycard do do their gold card which is for average ratings/ histories so not quite as black and white as you say. I remember the days when Gold was for excellent, platinum was coveted and black truly was almost unheard of :(
