E-on....... is this legal?

I have recently had a pre payment electricity meter fitted by E-on for my electric. I didn't know but my gas was still seperate and I got a letter pushed through my door saying I owed £148 for my gas, plus a further £100 for them visiting my house (this was on October 5th). They said I had 7 days to arrange a payment. On the 10th of October I came home to find a gas meter fitted (5 days not 7) and I have to pay a further £93 to have my gas reconnected.............. a totla charge of £193 addition for a £148 debt............... is this this legal, being given 7 days to pay and then fitting it after 5 anyway?

Thank you in advance

does it say within 7 days
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

    is this this legal,

If you are asking that question you need to ask a lawyer.

If you are asking here if it is fair and reasonable you need to share the precursor to the situation with the forum.
  • yes it says within 7 days
  • no, I was given 7 days to sort the payment (giving me upto and including October 12th) then they acted anyway on October 10th, two days before the deadline. Where I work we give a lot of accounts that are due 30 days after the invoive date. We don't chase them after 28....... reason.... we state 30 days

Since you still has the original gas credit meter (until they changed that), how did you not know they were 'separate'? Are you seriously saying that you thought they diverted the gas supply through your electricity meter when they fitted the PPM?
    Or have I misunderstood?

    Hi felix42351,

Agree here with ihateyes. The meters have been fitted for quite small amounts.

Fitting pre-payment meters on a warrant to collect a debt is very much the last resort.

You should have received letters, phone calls etc for some time before all this happened to enable you to set up some sort of arrangement or agree payments.

How long has the balance been outstanding? Has this been carried forward from previous bills?

You would need to contact us to discuss the specifics of fitting the meter after 5 days instead of the 7 that was on the letter. As it all depends on the debt collection process on your account.

My guess is that your bill was 28 days overdue, and that another bill had also been produced also?
