You will get several different suggestions of permutations of tie, shirt, jacket but as long as you don't ditch the shirt wearing only a tie and jacket, you'll be fine. You will make the right impression of somebody who has made an effort for an interview. Another part of making an effort is to read up a bit on the company first - in the warehouse are you shipping Christmas cards or lawnmowers? Think around the job eg would a forklift license be useful?

At least as important is timekeeping. Get to the area an hour early and wait in a cafe if needs be. Use the cafe loo, dry your nervous sweaty palms well! On your walk in, check the place out - are there decent cars or all wrecks, is the place well maintained and clean, what businesses are nearby, etc. Arrive on site 5 mins before the interview slot and report to reception. Put your phone on silent ot turn it off.

During the interview, slip in that you know just a little about the product lines they carry "I know you do a lot of garden machinery here, I don't have a forklift license yet, I hope that doesn't limit how useful I can be" or similar words. It tells them that 1) you did some research so take the job seriously 2) that you are considering how you would fit in with the team 3) that you see a future for yourself there, and you want to make yourself useful 4) that you want to improve your skills and value to the company. When you get a chance to ask questions at the end, ask if it is shift-based work and how the parking/transport works at 2am (or whenever). In the middle answer their questions fully and honestly, talk about similar work you've done in the past or skills you can apply (eg "I worked as a kitchen porter at XYZ - lots of manual handling involved, so I know all about safe manual handling, lifting, etc").

    They will love you.
  • Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and help.I really am grateful. I will let everyone know if I get the job or not.
    Roll on 2.40pm today.
    Thanks again

dress smart regardless of what the job is .............always

You'll get rejected for dressing up too well. Rule of thumb is NEVER dress better than the interviewer, especially for a job doing manual work. Interviewer feels threatened if you do this. S/he think you'll leave soon as you find a job more worthy of that suit.
