Hi all
I' running Windows 7 Home Premium (got that bit out of the way).
Until recently, any updates were downloaded and I had the option on shutdown as to whether or not to install the updates.
Although the setting hasn't changed, the update centre now says there are (at the moment) 19 updates to install.
I've clicked on install and it's now downloading them ready for install.
Can anyone tell me why this has changed (without changing the setting) and how I can put it back?
The actual wording for the option is
"Download updates but let me choose whether to install them"
Any help gratefully received.

Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Update > Change Settings.
Under important updates, it should be set to "Install Updates Automatically (Recommended)"
That option downloads and installs the updates in the background, and any that need to will be done on shutdown.

Once downloaded I had the option of downloading them there and then or leaving it till shutdown.I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.0 -
best setting for updates is to notify you they are ready but not to download and install until you ok it. The number of vista machines I've had to rebuild after being powered down with the on/off button whilst automatic updates have been in progress.... haven't seen it on 7 yet, but the potential is there............Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Thanks GunJack.
I don't mind the updates downloading, but I want to install them on shutdown (or at least be notified they're there) which isn't happening at the minute.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
