    Hi,

You could be describing my little boy, he turned 3 a few months ago now, we get DLA for him but told that they wouldn't look at the Mobility side until he was 3, we are waiting for the ASD panel to see him. He won't walk so still in a pushchair, he has daily meltdowns. Very slight built because he is NEVER still.

I haven't claimed the mobility side, when I phoned I was told like someone has already mentioned that we may get awarded at a lower rate DLA care part. He can walk just won't do so.

I know when they reach 5 you can get mobility at high or low rate unlike now at 3 it's only the high rate awared.
  • AH HA!! now that makes sense as to why he doesn't get it now. I fully intend to contest it though and get at least low rate for him. Don't they realize you can't carry/push a child around forever.

I remember them saying to me just push him in a pram. Given the fact I had a newborn (who is now 4 months old and is still the size of a newborn) and obviously can't safely be strapped into a double pram is insane!

Although it's very sad it's nice to see I'm not the only one. Sometime's you simply forget that others experience the exact same thing's as you!
  • I think my son was awarded high rate at around 6/7, he has adhd, behavioural issues, severe learning disabilities yadda yadda yadda. Because he literally cant even be outside the front door unaccompanied, has verbal dyspraxia so couldnt ask for help if lost, would walk off with any stranger and has no sense of direction etc so couldnt find places and is a danger to himself and others. He used to have to wear reigns while out of the house and would generally throw himself on the floor and not move because of them, yet couldnt not have them due to his safety so it was catch 22.

I think they upped the rates for him when it was reviewed around his 6th birthday
