Boiler / Central Heating Installation Query

A local heating engineer has recommended we replace our old Baxi back boiler with a new combi boiler. I agree with him on this. However, he claims he can pick up a discontinued Halstead boiler for around £280 plus VAT. Full installation quote is likely to be around £1000 I reckon. Does anyone know about Halstead boilers? Is it a good deal?

First of all I would ask why do you need to replace it? Mine recommended keeping it as it's reliable and easy to maintain.

Yes, the replacement will be more efficient, but I calculated that as we don't use a huge amount of gas that saving didn't seem worth the cost of the replacement and any extra maintenance.

  • no no no for god's sake no, halstead are the worse boilers ever made, they got bought out by glen dimplex a few years ago & that was the biggest mistake dimplex ever made here is a quote from their web site.

Glen Dimplex ceased the manufacture of condensing gas boilers with effect from April 2012 although it is anticipated that leading plumbing and heating merchants may have stocks available after this date. Please be aware that all warranties in relation to previously installed Halstead and Dimplex Gas Boilers will continue to be valid provided that the annual service is still carried out.

it didn't take dimplex long to realise how bad these boilers are, if your installer is recommending halstead i would not get him doing any work in my house as he obv hasn't got a clue what he is doing.
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

    Don't even consider this suggestion.

Get a different installer who fits good boilers, eg Remeha Avanta Plus.

Expect around £2.5 K for a proper job with a genuine 5 year warranty.

The install component is half the cost-why compromise it with a carp boiler?
