Can I just say please, that although Cap.One may do good deals for bad creditors they are also like rottweillers if you fall behind with payments. They were ringing me up to 12 times a day and even during the night when I fell behind, and long after a debt management company took over, and other companies agreed to smaller repayments, Cap One kept on hassling me. Just a warning

What exactly prompted the original post. Seems to be a random rant about Capital One.
I quite like them, I have a card linked to base rate with APR of just 2.48% with them.0 -
Actually, you are wrong.
I happen to regularly read these forums, and of late, in my opinion of course, there has been a slightly cynical and often brusque attitude to some posters.
It's a bit like when a new person goes to a bar, and all the locals (who obviously are really close and have known each other for years, not) start sniping...
You can assume all you like that I am the 'same person/poster' and that I have a sad life, and that is absolutely your perogative; indeed there is no way that I can prove otherwise.
But I couldn''t care less.
My original point was that there is a number of replies that appear to be sniping and condescending, and that is all; I don't know the OP and don't really give a monkeys about his/her capital one card. That was not my issue.
So you can all get together and snide all you want to re "they're the same poster" and "mmm yes I thought so too" and put it where the sun don't shine!
There are many posters on these forums that offer genuine, helpful advice to those that need it, and then there are the others...
Like I said, I have no grief with anyone, I certainly am not a troll, cos genuinely I don't care enough to be one.
My wife, four children, and my job as head of mathematics at a local secondary school ensure that I do indeed "have a life".
Cheers

Well, John, I just find it strange that your first post is leaping to the defence of such a meaningless thread and that your post was then followed by another new member jumping to the rescue of the OP. Nevertheless, I'll accept your explanation and assume that nobody would care so much about this trivial topic to create multiple online personas in their own defence.
In response to the OP, I believe all companies would do the same. If you don't pay your debts, expect to be hounded. Everybody knows this. Capital One are no worse than any other creditor.0 -

I agree with much of the sentiment here. There is a lot of backslapping and "funny" sarcastic comments which are often then bizarrely "thanked" by other members. People should stick to answering questions and providing information.
You get this behaviour to some degree on lots of forums but on MSE it's particularly prevalent - as you can see from the number of people who pick up on it and post about it. I've read a lot of complaints like this in the space of a few weeks. The mods should clean it up and police it better0 -

Fair enough; as you say it is such a trivial topic, and I will stop after this reply, I promise
but the topic itself wasn't what grabbed my attention.
I guess having read a lot of posts on these forums recently, I have found more and more of the replies that neither offer help nor support, but rather aim to 'belittle' the OP.
I suppose in these days of keyboard warriors, until posters have a track record of 'sensible' posts they are fair game for the label of troll; I am intelligent enough to accept this.
Maybe I should've chosen my crusade a little more carefully!!
Anyway, back on topic, Re Capital One, I have had one of these in the past - I actually didn't realise at the time they were classed as 'subprime' lenders? but I paid all amounts as they should've been, and consequently had no problems whatsoever.
So sorry OP, if one fails to keep up your side of a credit agreement, then one can expect to be chased for payment of the debts owed. It is unfortunate that in this case, the company in question has been very forthright in their collection procedure. In future, I would try to ensure you make payments on time, answer phonecalls promptly and be polite to whoever you speak to; take names and job role for future reference, and hopefully the 'aggressive' requests for payments begin to dwindle.
I remeber the dark days when I would withdraw CASH on my credit card to pay monthly payment on the same card. As a mathematician teaching my pupils financial literacy, I felt very foolish.
Cheers

Humour is welcome but a lot of it is at the expense of people who don't have the expertise or knowledge and make mistakes or perhaps post questions or comments that can appear silly. Other forums have humour but without so many complaints about how people are treated. The two don't have to go hand in hand0 -

Hello,
I'm catching up on this thread and for some reason I can't read back more than 7 posts, but I gather from reading them that sunshineholiday has been accused of creating another profile and posting as me??? Not true, I was simply expressing my agreement at the seemingly harsh treatment of another new poster. The sarcastic replies seemed out of context to his posting, especially the big 'be nice to me' stamp as a new poster!. There are plenty of people on the moneysaving forums I'm sure who know the ordeal of not being able to keep up with credit cards and I felt haztaz comment was genuinely helpful and did not deserve the response he got.
I'm a mum of two, work as a communications manager and live in the country with chickens and a dog... if that goes anyway to convincing people I am a separate person to sunshineholiday.

Some messages appear to have been deleted.
Interestingly, I note that you've only posted one other message to this message board and that was in another forum.
Did your accidently log in to the wrong account before posting your response? It's easily done. :rotfl:I felt haztaz comment was genuinely helpful and did not deserve the response he got.
Of course. However, most of us already knew that Capital One, and other credit companies, get a bit miffed and persistent when a creditor stops paying them.
Perhaps you, the chickens and dog didn't know this, which explains why you found that information "genuinely helpful."
To be fair, though, if you lent someone a couple of thousand pounds and they didn't pay it back as agreed, wouldn't you at least phone them a few times a day to find out why, especially if they were throwing cash at non essentials such as a debt management company?0 -
As I've replied to every other thread regarding Capital One this evening, thought I'd pop in to say I've got nothing but good things to say about them! I've had three different Capital One cards over the last eight years, never had a single problem!0
-
Capital one aren't purely subprime - they offer credit cards to all types of customer - one of their cards requires a £50,000 salary.
Sometimes people can be a tad judgemental, and in some cases deserved (for example there is one idiot who boasts how much money he has in savings) but most are helpful and genuine. Most of us have suffered financial difficulties in the past (I remember the humiliation of my bank card being cut up in front of my eyes in the local spar) - Today I'm much more solvent but it takes time and dedication.0
