This Year To Be Debt Free

Hi Everyone,
Thought that i might give this a go I (sorry we) myself my wife and two kids (7&9) we are going to try and be debt free by the end of this year 2007.

Right what we owed our creditors at the start of this year was £16.761 but we asked them for a settlement figure on the off chance it was small enough that we would be able to pay it. All of them gave us one and said that if we are in the position to pay it then good but if not then we would just have to carry on with the repayment plan we have had for the last few years (10yrs in fact). Well all the settlement figures together is £9.339 up to now we have managed to pay of 5 of our creditors so far with 5 left to pay but at the end of this their will be 2 left to pay one for about £4000 and one for £2000 so it looks like it might take a little bit longer to be debt free after all..

I must thank my wife and kids as it takes all of us to become debt free we all are living with just the essentials and none of them seem to complain about it so i think if you have a good family behind you and are willing to help you can get debt free... Even though my kids are only 7 and 9 they know what our position is and why we only have a treat at the end of the month if we have spare money.. don't get me wrong we have food on the table roof over our heads and all the bills are paid but all of our money is accounted for.. This is going to be a very hard year but we will get through it.....

  • Thank you all for the support so far....

As for my budget I have every thing wrote down in my book all of our household bills as well as creditors and anything else, if fact if it costs money its in the book this way I can keep an eye on our finances and know what is left at the end of every month...

And for our creditors I have done a exel spreadsheet with the company's name monthly payment balance outstanding as well as any settlement figures they will take and a space to write PAID In big red letters...

The next creditor in our sights is Lowell's we owe them £375 they bought the debt of Barclay card. This company is not very nice the customer advises are just like robots no conscience or emotions but come the end of April they will be gone.. Nothing beats the satisfaction of paying off a debt no matter how big or small..........
