Password Problems??

I'm having loads of them and it's driving me mad.

Just tried to get into Paypal to pay for an Ebay item and it REFUSED the password that I know is DEFINITELY right because I emailed it to myself recently when Paypal inexplicably refused my original one I'd had for years and made me change it. ??

So.. I've changed it AGAIN.

Hotmail was acting up a while back too - what a fiasco, I had to change password several times, again it was refusing the one I'd had for years.

Also, tried to get into a Hotmail account I'd not used for a while (created maybe a year ago), was refused entry into that. Whole palaver of 'give us loads and loads of info about yourself' that Hotmail seems to be loving recently. It then told me it would email my reset password to two completely strange email addresses that were nothing to do with me. ???

Just out of curiosity, I googled the email address (of mine) in question and found out it was in use by 2 other people - who had obviously been using it for years!

Hotmail GAVE me that address, on application, after refusing other ones because they were already taken!

I haven't made a mistake with the address - all characters correct.

It's a new laptop and the Paypal was set up with my main Hotmail address (not the one that seems to have been given to several people).

Does your password have a " a \ or a @ in it? Sometimes new kit can be set-up with a US keyboard, and these characters are in a different place on a UK one.

New Laptop... Like Fishbulb said, most new laptops keys are set up alot differently, if in doubt and unsure use and online keyboard to write your password up, check it make sure, then copy and paste it into the password box.

If it works your keyboards no doubt set up in US.

Thanks for the replies. I don't understand about the keyboard stuff though, as I can see what I'm typing onscreen. @ is shift and the top character on the comma key. Am I missing something?

Anyway, Hotmail sent me a questionnaire thingy about trying to recover my minor account. Boy did I give them feedback haha!
