Help with prescriptions/dental on Jobseekers

I know only income based JSA have an automatic right to free prescriptions and dental work, and contribution based have to pay but can claim for help if their income is low. Does anyone know what they define low income as? Is it above the JSA payment level? I can't find anything online about limits. I read that the help can be a sliding scale.

I don't want to pay for expensive treatment I can't really afford if I am unsure of whether I would be able to claim back or get any help with costs. Thanks

Hi thanks the the reply. No I'm on JSA contributions and that is my only income. Had a look on the link but can't find what the threshold is for help on contributory JSA. I've just found some posts which said it's incredibly low. Whether it's lower than 300 a month I don't know? Would like to know before I undertake dental treatment as if I can't claim a little bit back would be in difficulties.

You'd be better off filling in an HC11 form to see if you are entitled. Tbh I'd be surprised if you weren't entitled to full help if that's your only income.

  • if i read it right- i think it's aall done on an individual basis, thats why might be struggling to find an actual amount. why not given them a ring, chances are they will be able to tell you a bit more,as i think they also take into account your outgoings.
