Payment for Gumtree

How are Gumtree payments normally arranged if someone can't collect in person but by post? Do I ask them for a cheque and wait for it to clear, what are the risks in giving out bank details fir BACS, what about Paypal but not sure if they have it.

*Don't* take paypal, just get them to transfer you the money.

No risks associated with giving out your bank details.

    Is it a phone?

I didn't realise that banks allow you to send account numbers and sort code to an undisclosed party. OK for me as a seller and cheaper than paypal as well, but this requires trust from buyer. It is a pair of walking shoes

He has just paid into my current account, but it is highlighted in a different colour and is defined as a 'teller transaction'. Is this money secure or could the transaction be potentially reversed?

Risks involved in giving out bank details are minimal. You are only giving out what is on every cheque you write.

Under normal circumstances bank transfers can't easily be reversed. As long as your buyer trusts you and you're not going to stiff them then you should be OK.
