I've been chargebacked :(

Sold a brand new Samsung E900 on Friday for £110 + £5 p&p, received paypal payment from confirmed address moments later and withdrew the amount in my paypal account to my bank account straight away, posted phone Saturday morning.

Everything gone swimmingly fine so far..... Saturay afternoon paypal mail me and inform me they have reversed the payment to my bank account to cover a negative balance, the negative balance is then revealed to be a chargeback for the E900!

Logged into paypal and provided tracking info, they say an agent will be onto this and when the item is signed for I will have my money back.

Only problem is I charged for special delivery but sent the E900 via 1st class recorded, will they blast me for this?

In the meantime my account is still receiving paymwents from others so nothing else is affected.

and how long before my £115 is given back to me?

There are other people that have more knowledge of this but I think you can kiss goodbye to your money , you charged for SD , why on earth didn't you use it ? Recorded only covers up to £34 and doesn't mean anything when it comes to Paypal chargebacks as far as I am aware . If I am wrong then I will take this all back .

Was the transaction eligible for PayPal seller protection?

Looking at the listing I think it is a hacked buyer account possibly

I wouldn't have thought the tracking would show anything until it had been delivered as he only sent it 1st class recorded delivery and not special delivery .

He clearly states he sent it 1st class recorded and he also states he has entered the tracking details to Paypal but as everyone else here is quick to advise , recorded only shows up on the system once it has been signed for and being as he only sent it on Saturday the buyer wouldn't have even received it yet either .

The only way to get money back would be through small claims court. And thats provided the signature matches the person who you have supposedly sent the phone to. If they can prove that they did not receive or sign for the phone then I dont think you have any way of getting the money back.

I had this done to me a few years ago and since then stopped selling stuff on ebay if it was worth more than a fiver. It was exam time for me, so I never bothered following it all up. Just let it go.

I would prefer the comfort of this having been sent by special delivery purely because it is a guaranteed service and can be tracked online. Recorded is still accepted by paypal, but of course it does need to be signed for and as can be seen on several other threads recorded sems less and less secure as it is sometimes not signed for.

If the recorded delivery does show up as signed for then you have a good argument with paypal. If it ends up not showing as signed for then you will lose both the paypal chargeback and your money as Royal mail will say you used the wrong service.

What about where other people have said about how the signature must match the name it was sent to ? Is this true ? Lets say I bought the phone , gets sent to my name and address but OH signs for it , how would a seller stand then ?
