Dehumidifiers - ebac, tips

Moved to a property which suffers from bad condensation and cant seem to prevent it. I know dehumidifiers are not curing the source of the problem but they will help prevent damage to surfaces and keep my sanity.

It seems ebac dehumifiers are often mentioned. Using their site it recommends a 2850e model.

How noisy will it be, as will be placed on landing near bedrooms. Is there a better location than others?

Would a dessicant type be as good?

Cheapest found to date for 2850e is £185 incl delivery at Aircondirect

Position .... trial & error, depending upon which doors are open/closed etc. etc. and where you MOST suffer condensation.

Noise: well, mine's ....... ummmmm .......... imagine fan heater on lowest setting? Kind of a low hum.

In my experience, MUCH more efficient than dessicant options.

How reliable are ebac units? How is their customer service? Is 5yr guarantee worth the extra £45?

Found this on diy.com forum, dont sound good.

Ebac 2000 series have a few problems

Typically the fan fails (turns slow or is stuck)
    The condensor stops defrosting
the matrix gets clogged with dust etc
    PCB fails
Compressor mounting bolts and rubbers fail allowing the base of the compressor to rub on the base.
fill level cut out arm on the water tank or de-humidifier bends so causing intermittant operation.

They require 16 degrees ambient air temp to operate correctly

Not a fan of them despite the boss selling them (get around a 30% return rate within a year with all sorts of problems)
