Probably eating meat/veg/salad and leaving the potatoes/rice/pasta is what's working. That's a good clean, nutritious diet. You could use other kinds of protein like eggs or fish instead of meat for a bit more variety.
If he's following the Hay Diet then he won't have to leave out potatoes, rice and pasta. You can eat carbohydrates, just not at the same time as protein. That's basically the main rule.0 -

Cooked tomatoes aren't protein, they are acid. The acid/alkali ratio has to be balanced as well as keeping protein and carbohydrates apart. I tried it a few years ago, but it's all such a fuss and palaver that I gave up0 -
Is this a bit like the way the Italians eat? They eat pasta first and then the main course is meat and salad.0

With the Hay diet you are supposed to have one protein meal, one starch meal and one alkali meal. You are meant to have at least 4 hours between each meal, so pasta followed by meat wouldn't be allowed.0 -

My DH decided a couple of months ago that he wanted to lose weight, so he just cut out snacks and he walks up the hill from the bus stop instead of me picking him up. He's lost over 1 1/2 stones already. I eat less than him and exercise far more, but find it hard to shift even a poundSadly for us women men do find it a lot easier to lose weight.
Meat is also acid so if your DH is having meat at all his meals he's having a very acid diet - it should be four times alkali to acid.0 -
I think he's started to get bored!! haha! Didn't last long!
Am going to continue but on more of a red day/green day slimming world approach I think.Made it - 15 years married!! Finally!! xx:beer:0 -
Followed this a few year ago but had to give up due to new job with no canteen making it impossible to follow.
Results were amazing. Lost loads of weight. Stopped think of food all the time.
Detoxed. Nose would run, etc. Joints weren't painful after football.
Had loads of energy and a clear head. Felt like I'd previously had a low level illness all my life.0 -

What I meant was, when he's having the protein meal, he won't also be eating a mound of carbs so the meal's likely to be smaller. A lot of people (including me) eat quite a lot of carbs at most meals and now he's only going to do that at half.Saving for deposit: Finished! :j

Aaah I see. He could fill up with salad and other vegetables. For lunch I often chop up a plain salad of lettuce, celery, tomatoes and cucumber and add half a cup of chickpeas and/or peas. It keeps me full all day.
Apparently Dr Hay wasn't a big advocate of eating meat.0 -
It has strong similarities to the Harcombe diet (essentially don't eat carbs and fat, which includes meat, in the same meal) and that does appear to have sound principles behind it with regard to blood sugars and fat storage. I know Dad ate the Hay way for many years (he's been veggie for at least 55 years) and was always trim on it.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan
