Hi All
Does anyone have any experience in food combining (or not - as is actually the case!!)
Hubby is following the 'Hay' diet as suggested by his mum.
Basically, you cannot mix starch and protein in one meal - bang goes all my normal curries, pastas, pies etc etc!
I've been feeding him on meat + veg/salad for what seems like ages now with me and the kids have additional pasta/potato/rice but I'm getting really bored!!
Basically I need some ideas of what else to cook! I've tried veg curries but apparently cooked tomatoes are protein so can't add tomatoes!
Anyone any ideas/experiences??
Help!!

I remember Sir John Mills followed this diet and he certainly lived to a good age and remained active and working for most of his life!
This site tells you a bit about how it started - I remember looking stuff up about it when I was exploring bread making because Doris Grant who developed the no knead loaf was an enthusiuast

I think that meat and salad or soup would be good meals for the diet, but I'd definitely borrow lots of books from the library to get ideas that woud fit in with your life and not emphasise a lack.

There's that book, plus if you follow the link Amazon always give you other similar books to consider. I'd make a list and borrow or order and borrow a good selection from the library, and copy or scan all the recipes and/or menu ideas which appeal0 -

Probably eating meat/veg/salad and leaving the potatoes/rice/pasta is what's working. That's a good clean, nutritious diet. You could use other kinds of protein like eggs or fish instead of meat for a bit more variety.
Cooked tomatoes wouldn't have any more protein in them than raw ones, which is very, very little.Saving for deposit: Finished! :j
House buying: Finished!
Next task: Lots and lots of DIY0 -
Don't worry about the theory behind it - if it works for him, carry on. I know people who have had health problems clear up when they switched to the diet. The theory doesn't make a lot of sense but they're sticking to it.0

I've been reading up on this. There seem to be a lot of arguments for and against but I found it similar to the red and green days on Slimming World. Maybe some of their menu suggestions might be helpful? There's a thread on here of recipes from people following the plan. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3032236

Probably like how many of these faddy diet work. By the time you've figured out what you're allowed to it, it's time for bed and you're not hungry any more :rotfl:0 -
Ha ha you could be right Krlyr! I've decided to just cut down on obvious carbs as much as possible, cutting out breakfast cereal, pasta, bread etc but allowing myself things like carrots and beetroot which I understand have carbs too. Result? I feel thinner and I've dropped a few pounds, which is definite progress as I have been going up and down a couple of pounds for over a year
I also walk at least 30 minutes a day but have been doing this for a long time so don't think that makes a lot of difference apart from feeling fitter.
I hope that things settle down for you and your family soon GerturdeannaThe beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
