Best Places to Buy a New Bathroom Suite?

My wife and I are looking to replace our bathroom suite, the toilet and sink but not bath.

Can anyone recommend a supplier that may offer discounts, good prices etc. We were left uninspired by B&Q.

Thanks.

I believe that the OP was looking for a list of places to buy from, not a list of places to avoid at all costs! Why on earth would you recommend any of these companies?

VictoriaPlumb - Crap quality, unheard of manufacturers, terrible customer service record.

Bathstore - Exactly the same problems as above.

Wickes - Better than those above but the quality is still pretty poor and finding replacement parts in 12 months time will be impossible as they won't be selling the same stuff any more.

    Ebay - Really?

    OP,

Stick to the big brands, do not deviate. Examples include Armitage Shanks and Ideal Standard (same company), Roca, Twyford. They have been around for a very long time and all things being well they will be around for a while to come. The quality is good, replacement parts are readily available now and will continue to be for the next 5-10 years.

As for places to buy, stick to the plumbers and buildings merchants. Grahams and Jewson (same company), City Plumbing and Travis Perkins (same company), Plumbase and Buildbase (you guessed it, same company).

Browsing for a bathroom suite should be treated as a separate activity to buying a bathroom suite. Use the showrooms of the businesses mentioned above to find the suite you like, utilise the excellent working knowledge of the showroom staff to help you choose something suitable. When it comes to buying the materials go to a trade counter of the relevant business, do not buy from the showroom directly. Showrooms aim for higher margins on the materials they sell. Don't be afraid to take your quote from one company to another to batter them down.

Edited to add: As above, nothing wrong with local independents. They all tend to stock the brands I mentioned and can sometimes have lesser margin expectations.

I have bought, installed and used bathroom suites from several of the places I mentioned and had no problems whatsoever. Bathstore.com especially was great.

Hopefully you have never installed them for anyone other than yourself?

???? If I have never experienced problems using them myself, why would that change if another used them? Do other people use bathrooms differently to me?

  • Would definitely always go with well known brands (Sottini, Hansgrohe, V&B etc) from a local independent showroom - buying cheap is a false economy imho and customer service in larger chains is usually below par in my experience.......you get what you pay for, as they say ;)

We bought a suite on Saturday from our local PlumbCentre and were please with the items, prices and salesman knowledge.

Most of the trade plumbers go to this or similar stores, rather than the big DIY stores.

Some plumbers will get a discount too, so maybe having a look on line, then ask your plumber to buy the items for you.

The only snag is that the store doesn't have much of a display (like B & Q for example)
