Hardly ever use the door from the utility to the garden in the winter and now its come to this time of year we need to get out there, However this weekend weve found that the key is missing and cant open it as its locked. hubbys been to diy store this morning thinking it would be easy enough to just take the old lock off and replace with another, but no not that easy, hes taken both the handles off (inside & out) and just left with the hole in the door with the bolt thing into the latch its a Fleet 2 Lever Lock any one any ideas on what to do now
appreciate any help Thanx
My mind tends to wander............If found please return;)

What type of hinges does the door have can you knock the pins out of them ?
failign that lock smith or if you dont like the door / frame a big hammer should get it open but you will need a new door. (locksmith probably cheaper)If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

big hammer should get it open
Yeah ! just stop paying your council tax, and the baliffs will do it for free,
If it's a 2 lever lock you can try and 'pick the lock' ( 2 lever means there are 2 thin metal plates you have to lift )a bit of bent wire from a wire coat hanger might do it.
Failing that ! drill through the keyhole a few times using a steel drill bit, that will help to destroy the mechanism, allowing you to 'pick the lock more easily.
When replacing the lock fit a 5 lever only for better security.0 -
