Child Health insurance

Hi , im after health insurance for my daughter aged 2, ive checked Aviva , Tesco and Axa and they all offer child health insurance for about 10-12 quid a month.
Im ok with the 6 week condition, really just to prevent a major wait if any thing shoud ever go wrong, obviously hopefully it wont.
These plans all seem pretty much the same , is there anything i should be aware of re differences between providers or anything , or any one have insurance of this sort for a child who can offer any recomendations?
Cheers

Any pre-existing conditions? Any illness since birth?
Check what the policy excludes. ie. incurable conditions.
A+E trips may not be covered. Sometimes you will have to wait the same length of time as an NHS patient.
There maybe limits on the maxium payour for illness.
Is it worth it?
Never had any issues with the kids and the NHS personally. Wonder if someone will post up that they had private treatment and it was worth it.
Or had private treatment and though what a waste?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
6 week option = no cancer cover, no heart cover and no transfer from a&e (so literally completely rubbish). And sorry Forgotmyname but there's a lot of nonsense there.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Interesting Wutang, there are no pre-exisitng or any illness since birth , ibasically i want it for major illness cover should the worst happen, ie cancer or any operations etc , happy with NHS but dont want to have to wait months was the reasoning behind the happy with the 6 weeks. You say this 6 week clause = no cancer / heart cover, can you explain further, these specific child polices i thought included all this cover, albeit only if the NHS cant do it within this time scale? Thanks for you help.

I could be harsh here but I won't be...
The massively common misconception is that people want to cover themselves 'should the worst happen'. AXA recommend the 6 week option to help keep the price low.
The 6 week option means, if the NHS can treat you within 6 weeks, then you stay with the NHS. Heart conditions, cancer and A&E will ALWAYS be treated within 6 weeks (maybe not cured but treated).
There are too many people out there who have gone BUPA ("because I can trust them, they're the ones I have heard of") or bought the 6 week option ("because I still get full cancer cover don't I?") or Health On Line ("surely cheap doesnt equate to totally inept?").
Seriously, if you don't understand what you are purchasing, don't buy it.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

So main benefit of these plans then is the quicker private access to specialists and diagnostic out-patient tests and scans when you are referred by a GP. Would this not lead though to quicker treatment though even on NHS , due to quicker referal? Or in the case of cancer and heart issues are the referals via the NHS of a comparable timescale.
All the child plans have the 6 week option, so Ive also been looking at non-child specific plans without the 6 week option. You can reduce out patient cover to reduce cost but this would seem to be reducing the main benefit even if you have the full cancer and heart cover option.
Will look into this more as i obviously need to, it may be its just not for me in this instance, but thanks for your reply it has been helpful.

usually if there is any concern about a child having cancer or a heart problem they can be seen within days by the NHS consultant -may well take longer getting a private appointment.
Most kids seem to get unwell at evenings and weekends - unlikely to be any private acute care either outpatient or inpatient available then0 -
