Home content insurance

I never had an insurance and got no idea what is it for exactly .I went to my bank branch of Nationwide and had been offered one for over 480 pounds a year and with one pay because never had an insurance.I don't even know what will cover. My Tv and home cinema is worth more than 5,000 on it's own,got jewellery from my grandmother should I price it with somebody because what proof I can provide in case of robbery or fire.Nationwide sounds good for a reason that has a good history of paying out .I would value all my staff for about 50,000 does this mean I would get this sum or less.

Whats the total value of all your jewellery?

Whats the single most expensive part of your home cinema?

Did Nationwide quote you their "Home Insurance" or their "Home Insurance Essentials"
  • Go to an aggregator like confused.com and put in the details - it'll give you an idea what is the right price for your area with your items.

On the surface £480 sounds a lot but it could be you live in a high risk area.

  • It's home essential and tv is most expensive about 3,000 pounds.
  • I have no idea of value of my jewellery
  • You will need to get an idea of the value to be able to get insurance. If you assumed it was worth £500 and it turned out it was worth £50,000 then it would cause you big problems with ANY claim you make if the insurers spot you are under insured.

Most apply the rules of averaging so if you are 60% under insured then they reduce the settlement of any claim by 60%
