Facebook rant!!!

  • As I said above, there are other benefits to running competitions than direct publicity - if you win the competition then you are more likely to buy from them, and you would probably recommend them to friends, and so on.

And I would be surprised if they could monitor how many likes are being seen and by who.

Anyway - it doesn't matter now, as in 24 hours I probably won't be able to enter any facebook competitions at all!!

Boris if they haven't changed your name straight away it wil ltake ages (have you already changed it before?)

When i got married it took them three weeks to accept my name change and i had to show them the wedding certificate and proof of ID to show it was me (as i had already had a forced name change on my only account because they dodn't like i didnt use my full name)

Really?! When i got married my name change was instant, didn't have to provide proof or anything, my name just changed as soon as i hit enter.

  • I did warn my friends that they might see some strange 'likes' coming up on my page for comp entries and was especially relieved that I had when I posted a like for 'nuts' !
  • I also have a second account to protect my friends and family. On the second account I have only comping friends. For me its the perfect set up. Other wise its like mixing business and pleasure lol. Still haven't won anything so it cant be cheating :-p
Maybe face book should start with the trolls?

I don't know about the likes, but they can certainly see whether you are sharing publicly and as has been said, the idea of a competition is to get your company seen and talked about.

I have seen some awful comments made about people who are suspected of having more than one account. I can understand why it would seem like a good idea to have separate accounts if you enjoy comping, but unfortunately until Companies themselves start following Facebook rules and stop running 'Like & Share' competitions, it's a case of warning your friends to expect lots of wall posts or choosing to only enter 'app' comps on Facebook.

Ok, but you've asked why people might have a problem with you doing this.
I personally would imagine that people entering these competitions with second accounts would reduce the benefit of the competition to the company and make them less likely to do (such good) competitions in the future. I may not be right, but that is what I think.
And so if I was entering these competitions (generally I don't, as it happens) I might be miffed that you were entering them with a second account. I think that answers your question.

You may agree with me and use your main account for competitions that you think are worth entering.
You may agree with me and not care.
You may disagree with me and choose to ignore the nasty comments.
You may disagree with me and decide to educate people who think like me why I am wrong - in which case you need to be having this conversation with the people making the comments, or even better get the companies themselves to tell the people making these comments that it makes no difference to them if people enter with second accounts.

But whether I am right or wrong, and whether you believe I am right or wrong, I still think I have given a valid explanation for why people may not like what you are doing.
  • Thanks for your feedback.

I think I will just stick to the competition entering and leave the Compers Chat Corner alone! This forum got a lot less fun today!!

If that's because of me then I'm sorry - I was only trying to answer your question!

That's a shame, I'm surprised that you feel like that. You seemed to know that having two accounts was wrong and asked for opinions and people gave them. They may not have been what you wanted to hear, but you will never get 100% agreement. Don't let it put you off.

  • Maybe things just seem a little harsher than they are meant in text format? I don't mind people's feedback, but it would be nice if it was softened a little to make it seem less direct.

I didn't think that having two facebook accounts is morally wrong, as I am not entering any competitions twice. I am actually pretty careful about what I enter, and only really enter things which are directed at someone like me. I don't enter competitions for students, or other things that I am not. And I would never lie on a survey or rate something that I haven't used. So the suggestion that I am cheating is quite hurtful.

I would never expect to get 100% agreement, but I would expect for people to be kind in their responses. This is meant to be a forum to help people and a hobby. And I am meant to enjoy a hobby!

    Just my thoughts anyway.
