PayPal payment question

I am a very infrequent buyer on eBay and recently bought an item via "buy it now" and paid via PayPal. I paid via my secondary and verified card (a credit card) for added protection.
This payment is now held pending until 16th October until the funds are verified. I just thought it was like a normal credit card payment and was deemed to have been paid.
I need the item by the 19th as its a present. My questions are
- Can I add funds from my normal bank account (my main card is the debit card linked to the bank account) and PayPal will use that? Or will they just apply that to my account as a future credit?
- if I phone the seller and pay over the phone, can I cancel the transaction?
- Any other thoughts how I can pay quicker and get the item quicker?
