Vanilla Mastercard Gift Card's can be bought in places like WHSmiths.
I received one, £25. Cost someone £27.95 to get it for me.
Have to register it on their site to activate it. Deposit it on gambling sites, 3% charge. Lucky enough to find something for exactly £25? Hard luck....
Bought for £27.95
Balance £25
Available to spend £24!!
Happy Birthday to me!!

It is not a rip off nor a scam.
By the way the 3% is probably because it is deemed a cash withdrawal. Be happy that someone went to the effort of giving you something for your birthday as a gift rather than gamble it away. You must be some friend.0 -
Always worth while reading the FAQs9.
What are some additional transaction fees associated with the card?
For all transactions associated with gambling a 3% fee will be applied."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -
Who cares if it is treated as a cash withdrawal - it is a cash-loaded card, not a credit card! I am with the OP, I dislike these payment cards as they just suck cash out of the system compared with simple cheques or banknotes.
It is rather upto the OP what he/she does with their money, and nothing to do with what kind of friend they are. !!!!!!.0 -

Just to recap; i want to get the max out the card. If I don't use it all it goes into Mastercard's pocket on card expiry. Remember they've already taken £2.95 for the privilege of this convenience(?).
Putting it on my poker account would be an easy way to get every last penny out. Gambling is fun and entertaining. My good friend wouldn't have known about this surcharge.
Don't give people these stupid cards! STICK WITH CASH!0 -

I'd say it goes into the pockets ofPrePay Technologies Ltd"If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0
