XP hanging on shutdown

Hiya

I've got an XP machine and whenever you try and shut it down, it just hangs. If left, it would just hang on the screen saying "shutting down"

I have scanned for viruses, I've ran updates, I'm just out of ideas.

Please can somebody help me
