On JSA now ill what happens?

I have been claiming JSA contributions only since July when I was made redundant, for the past month I have been seeing the doctor with depression due to family problems, she has asked me twice if I needed a note twice but I have declined as I am trying to get myself back to normal and back in the job market, but I am now feeling worse an I am due to sign on tomorrow but don,t think I can face it, I will ring and make an appt to see the doctor tomorrow and get a note but what is the position with the job centre in this situation?:(

You can be 'off sick' on JSA for a very limited amount of time per year - I think it's a couple of weeks.
It might also be possible to modify your jobseekers agreement in some cases.

However, in the slightly longer term, you will possibly need to claim ESA.
This is initially a simple procedure, and requires little more than a sicknote.
Sometimes in the first thirteen weeks or so, you will be asked to complete a form detailing your condition, and then possibly attend a medical, at which your work capability will be assessed.

If you pass this, you remain on ESA, if you do not, you can appeal, and will be paid at the same rate you have been paid (same as JSA) until this is heard.

Once/if you get the ESA50 form, it's probably a good idea to post again for more advice.
  • Thank you Rogerblack, so do I just ring the job centre tomorrow and tell them I'm ill and send them the note my doctor gives me?

If you think you can consider looking in some manner for work, then I'd advise that, and attend if possible, and ask about modifying your JSA agreement.
Otherwise, yes, and make an online claim for ESA perhaps.
