Mountain Bike - Just Realised Not As Desribed... Where do I stand?

So... I purchased a bike in June/July, from Halfords, which cost me £359.99 on offer.
Now the bike was advertised, and still is, with suspension forks with 120mm of travel, (how much the forks can bounce), the more the better on tough terrain.
The forks contain air, which I went to pump up.
Upon doing so today I noticed that they were smaller, upon measurement they were only 100mm, which makes a difference when riding.
The thing that made me realise was my dad purchased another bike with 120mm forks and they look significantly bigger!
Rung Halfords and they have said they will ring back tomorrow, when the "parts" guys are in.
Where do I stand?
The bike was reserved online, I was called when it was built, and went to pay and collect in store.

I think you'd be on shaky ground at best given the length of time that has passed.....they would likely argue that you have accepted the changes due to a reasonable length of time passing without you rejecting the goods.
However if you are polite to them and explain the problem, they may offer something out of goodwill.
Speak to them first and see what they say, if you don't get anywhere, please come back and update your thread and we might be able to advise on possible ways to proceed. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Thanks!
Well it's not something I realised until today.
You assume the website, sales staffs etc all do their job.
I mean it was built for me! And has had its 6 week service, surely they should have picked this up.
I purchased it under the impression it would be 120mm!
It's not until you carry out some maintenance on it that you realise. As you wouldn't question it!
Gutted!
Hope they come back with something good.0 -

How much of a difference (performance wise) does the difference make? Would a 120mm bike be more expensive than 100mm?
Those are the main points you want to address but as I said, you may be on shaky grounds at best given that consumers have a statutory right to examine the goods to ascertain whether they are within the conformity of the contract or not. However, this right ends when you a) intimates to the seller that you accept, b) do anything that is inconsistent with you not being the owner of the goods or c) a reasonable length of time passes without you rejecting them.
Given 3+ months has passed, I would say arguing non-acceptance could be extremely difficult. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Can you link to the page showing the bike. Is it 120mm forks or 120mm of travel - which would make the forks length around 140mm or a bit bigger IIRC. Its quite important.
Also how did you measure how far the forks travelled?"If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -

Wouldn't you?
As Unholyangel says, after three months you will be seen to have legally accepted the goods as supplied.0 -
As above 120mm of travel or 120mm fork length?
If stripped will the forks travel 120mm?

I have just bought this bike and don't want to damage the suspension.
Answer --- Yes, you can adjust the suspension to however responsive you need it to be for the particular terrain you're riding. Hope that helpsI think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.0 -
